I'm Danielle & I am the curator and owner of Your Sisters Closet. I was born & raised in Calgary, Alberta. I went to the University of Victoria, where I got my Bachelors degree in Sociology, along with a minor in Business. I started this company to combine my love for thrifting, my passion for sustainability, and interest in fashion. When I am not working, you can find me planning my next outfit, my next trip, or hanging out with my cat, Piper. I am so grateful to be able to do what I love and share it with this community. Thank you for coming on this journey with me and choosing sustainable fashion.
While I was backpacking through Asia, my best friend passed away, my grandma. I was completely heart broken, Being so far away and feeling so hopeless. I had just arrived in a town called Hoi An, located in Vietnam. For those who don't know about Hoi An, It's located on the coast of central Vietnam. The city is completely covered in lanterns and there is beauty on every corner. One thing Hoi An is especially well-known for is it's expert tailors.
I felt weirdly (or so I thought at the time) inspired in the wake of my grandmas passing. Being in Hoi An, surrounded by all these handmade clothes and impressive tailors. It came to me, I wanted to create something my grandma would be proud of me for. All my life she was aways on my case about recycling, not being wasteful, finishing ALL my food before leaving the table, etc. But above all that she was the most supportive person in my life!
I have always had a love for clothing and felt a sense of self-expression through fashion. I use to come home after school and try-on outfit after outfit as I tried to get more creative with my clothing and how I was styling it. I also always wanted to work for myself, on my own terms and Your Sisters Closet let me achieve that. My grandmother would call me her little sweet pea, hence the sweet pea incorporated into the logo. While this was created in memory of my grandma, this is only my first endeavour into fashion. I have learned and continue to learn so much with this company. Thank you for coming along on this journey with me!
